The second largest pyramid in the world.
About the Trip
Chichen Itza is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It is one of the most frequently visited Mayan site in Mexico. And as far as I’m concerned, it was the only valid reason for going to Cancun on a vacation other than being 19 and in College during Spring Break.
On a whim, I decided that I wanted to go somewhere warm for my Birthday weekend. We checked out the United website to see what specials they had and Cancun came up. Cancun came up with cheap flights and relatively cheap hotels. The woman was happy because we would have pool and beach. I was happy because I could see something worthwhile.
No gear needed. Except maybe your camera and beach wear.
You can arrange at your hgotel to go to the site. My suggestion... pay the extra money
- Cost: It’s going to vary depending on the season. We deliberately went off season (Mid October) to avoid the crowds and get better rates.
- Gear: No gear needed. Except maybe your camera and beach wear. The site is pretty much flat but you’ll be walking for about a good two hours in all so wear good kicks.
- Info: You can arrange at your hotel to go to the site. Since it’s the main site in the area, you’ll be inundated with offers everywhere from the minute you walk off of the plane. My suggestion is to pay the extra money to go on a nice big comfortable air conditioned bus. The site is two hours away. You’ll be glad for the comfort.
- Photos: Check out what you’ll be seeing.
The oldest known basketball court. The Mayans played for more than pride or money though. The reward for winning on this court was death. Sacrificed to the Gods.
And of course, the large pyramid.
Amazing that the beautiful pyramid above was found in the 1800's looking like this photo below.
